The only reason to rent a car would be if you're planning a day trip outside the city — Jack Daniel's distillery in Lynchburg, or Franklin, TN are both great options and about 45–60 min away. But for the core weekend itinerary, skip the rental car and the parking headaches.

If you're staying at the Courtyard Vanderbilt/West End, it's a 5-minute walk — the closest hotel to the game. From the Fairfield in The Gulch, plan on a 15-minute Uber. From The Nash downtown, same — about 15 minutes by Uber. Game day traffic around the stadium can be heavy, so leave extra time if you're coming from downtown.

Nissan Stadium is a 10-minute Uber from downtown Nashville. There's also a pedestrian bridge from downtown — a scenic 20-minute walk over the Cumberland River with great skyline views. After the final whistle, Uber surge pricing can spike dramatically. Consider either waiting 30 minutes before requesting a ride, or just walking back across the bridge — it's pleasant on a September evening.

Yes — the tourist areas where you'll be spending your time (Broadway, The Gulch, Midtown near Vanderbilt, and downtown) are heavily trafficked and well-policed, especially on weekends. As in any city, use standard awareness: stay in groups late at night, stick to well-lit main streets, and be aware of your surroundings. Broadway in particular has a heavy police presence on Friday and Saturday nights.

Saturday is college ball — UD vs. Vanderbilt at FirstBank Stadium, which holds about 40,000 people and is right on the Vanderbilt campus. It's a beautiful, intimate venue with affordable concessions. Sunday is the NFL — Jets vs. Titans at Nissan Stadium, which holds 69,000 and sits across the river from downtown. Two completely different atmospheres, both worth experiencing. The college game has a unique tailgate energy; the NFL game has the production scale of the big leagues.
